This is the ship on which Dad sailed home from New Zealand in 1930.  Research (by Peter Derbyshire) has uncovered the following facts about the Tainui.  She was built in 1908 and took her maiden voyage to Wellington, N.Z.  She was requisitioned in 1917, torpedoed and abandoned, but reboarded and towed to Falmouth.  In 1921 she resumed commercial service.  In 1943, now renamed the Empire Trader, she was torpedoed again.
